Research Assistant/Associate Position in Cell and Gene Therapy at the Department of Haematological Medicine, Division of Cancer Studies in King’s College London, UK 2012

Eligibility:
-Candidates will have at least a Masters degree and preferably a PhD and will ideally be experienced in GMP production.
-The candidate should demonstrate a strong interest in Cell/Gene Therapy or cellular/molecular immunology. Previous translational research experience will be an advantage.
-A PhD or equivalent by virtue of research based experience is essential at Research Associate level.
-The post-holder will be an active member of Immune Gene Therapy Research Group, with a wide range of interests in cancer immunology and gene therapy.
-Whilst required to perform GMP production duties, the post-holder is expected to take part in and contribute to the research productivity of the group.
-Where necessary the post-holder will be trained in the relevant aspects of GMP production, quality control and regulatory compliance in accordance with the requirements of work under Good Manufacturing Practice.

Scholarship Description: The Research Assistant or Associate appointed to this position will have important responsibilities in the translational development, GMP production and QC analysis for the release of a range of experimental cell and gene therapy products for clinical studies. This includes the monitoring and production of an experimental whole cell vaccine in an ongoing Phase I study in Immune Gene Therapy for Leukaemia. Other cell/gene therapy products that are produced in our dedicated GMP facility includes: 1. Retro / Lentiviral vector for 5 Phase I clinical studies 2. Gene transduced whole cell vaccines for leukaemia for 2 Phase I/II clinical studies 3. Enriched Natural Killer / T cells for adoptive immune therapy 4. Peptide / tumour pulsed Dendritic Cells for 2 Phase I and 1 Phase II/III studies 5. Master Cell Banks 6. Peptides based vaccines An experimental cancer vaccine for glioblastoma is currently being produced and is scheduled to be trialled in patients for the first time in the UK in 2012.

What it Covers: The appointment will be made, dependent on relevant qualifications, at Grade 5 or 6, from £26,004 to £37,012 plus £2,323 per annum London Allowance.
